Decathlon & Octathlon
What?
- A team of nine students studying ten different
areas of interest: math, music, language and literature, art, economics,
science, super quiz, essay, speech, and interview
When?
- 4th period and outside of school
- Competitions in December, January, and February
Why?
- to win medals and scholarships
- to learn study skills, test taking strategies,
and cooperation
- to meet new people
- to study subjects outside of the regular
curriculum
Who?
- All grade levels
- Three “A” average students, three “B” average
students, and three “C” average students
Bonuses:
- counts as Level I credit
- makes a well-rounded student
- looks good on resumes
- teaches speaking skills for future job
interviews and presentations
- is fun
- includes travels on various field trips for
enrichment
* Octathlon* - for ninth and tenth grade students only! Octathletes compete
in all of the same categories except speech and interview, and their
competition occurs in April.
