German
Classes
In
German 1 and 2, the emphasis is on communication and vocabulary acquisition,
although grammar structures are also a necessary part of the course. It is
best to take German 1 in the Fall and German 2 immediately
afterward.
German 3 fulfills the language requirement for the Distinguished Achievement
Program. German 1-3 students use the textbook series Deutsch Aktuell, as well as supplemental materials. In order
to better prepare students who wish to take German 4AP, German 3 includes
a greater emphasis on grammatical structures.
In
German 4AP, the student will intensively review all German grammar and learn
more advanced forms of expression. The student will
also study German literature in more detail than previously. The texts for
German 4AP are Mitlesen, Mitteilen
and German In
Review, two college-level texts. The course also includes intensive
practice and preparation for the German language AP exam. It is recommended
that the student preparing for the German AP exam take German 3 in the Fall and
German 4 immediately afterward.
German V is the second advanced course in the German language. The
course provides more advanced practice in verbal, listening, and written forms
and more advanced authentic readings they will need to master in order to
pass the German AP Test. Students and teachers are to use the Target
Language almost exclusively. Students
will continue to use conversation to meet the TEKS goals of communication,
cultures, connections, comparisons, and communities at the intermedate high
to advanced low level.
